Melitracene is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA), used to treat depression and anxiety.
The pharmacology of melitracene has not been adequately studied and is largely unknown, but it probably acts similarly to other TCAs. These act by inhibiting serotonin reuptake. This increases the concentration of serotonin between neurons. This results in the antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects.
