Basics

Magnesium orotate is an active ingredient that is used to treat calf cramps and as a sedative. It belongs to the group of minerals and is the magnesium salt of orotic acid. It is usually present as magnesium orotate dihydrate and is poorly soluble in water.

Effect

Magnesium orotate acts as a magnesium transporter. It ensures that sufficient magnesium reaches the cells. Magnesium orotate is also an essential building block in the biosynthesis of pyrimidines, which in turn are an important component of enzymes that act as free radical scavengers. Recent studies have also shown that the active ingredient has a cardioprotective effect. Further results are still awaited.

Dosage

Always take magnesium orotate exactly as described in the package leaflet or as advised by your doctor.

Adults:

The usual recommended dose is 22 mg 1-3 times a week .

The recommended dose for acute symptoms is 22 mg daily for 3 days.

Magnesium orotate is used intramuscularly (application into the muscle), subcutaneously (application under the skin) or intradermally (application into the skin).

Children & adolescents:

The usual recommended dose is 22 mg 1-3 times a week .
