Basics

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is not an active substance as such, but a homeopathic remedy. It is also a coenzyme, which means that it is important for the catalytic activity of enzymes. NAD plays a crucial role in redox reactions in our body, such as the breakdown of carbohydrates. A deficiency of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide can lead to pellagra, a form of malnutrition. The symptoms of pellagra are inflammation of the skin (dermatitis), diarrhea and dementia.

Effect

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is an electron acceptor or donor. It can either donate or accept 2 electrons and a proton. As a result, it can be reduced to NADH+ or oxidized to NAD+. These are important biochemical steps in the citrate cycle, which is necessary for energy production in the body. NAD is also essential for DNA replication and DNA repair mechanisms. The required NAD is partly absorbed from food, from niacin and tryptophan. Both substances are required for the synthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.

Dosage
