Basics

Sodium oxalate is a homeopathic active ingredient for the treatment of chronic regulatory disorders of the body's own enzyme systems. It is the salt of oxalic acid. It is found in numerous fruits, herbs and vegetables and is a dicarboxylic acid. It is found in spinach and chives, for example. It is also found in honey. Sodium oxalate is usually found in the form of colorless crystals and is moderately soluble in water.

Effect

Sodium oxalate works by removing calcium ions, i.e. charged calcium atoms, from the blood plasma. This prevents the blood from clotting.

Sodium oxalate is toxic to humans in large quantities. It can cause bloody vomiting and a burning sensation in the mouth and throat. In very high quantities, it can also lead to death. However, this would require several hundred grams, if not kilograms, of sodium oxalate.
